Hello to all tuning in this week! Today we are looking at some American Traditional and Neo Traditional styles of illustration. You may recognize this style from a lot of old sailor tattoos and that would be because this is where the style originated from. American Traditional stylings have been around for over a century and the aesthetic still holds up to this day (with some minor tweaks). I’ll be using a digital tool again this week but next week you should see some pen and paper action. Let me know what you think of the time lapse and maybe what image you would like to see next!
If you like this style, I would suggest checking out West Shore Tattoo Shop , this Instagram feature page, and Born to Love Design on Instagram.

This is so awesome Riley! I really enjoy learning about the history of tattoo art styles and how they evolve over time. I have to say that I prefer the Eagle with the white background, even though I think both are sweet!

This is awesome and you are such a talented artist, Riley! I loved how you shared the history behind these types of illustrations, and it was so cool to learn how this style of work was born from the rebellious lifestyle of sailors in the early twentieth century. I also love how you edited your video with a distinct style that is authentic to you, and I think you should continue finding ways to personalize your videos in the upcoming weeks as it adds a lot of personality to your content. While both the black and white background look great, my preference is the white background! 🙂
If you are ever in Toronto, you should check out a great tattoo shop that reminds me of this style: http://www.theokeydoke.com/

Hi Riley love the video brother, very entertaining method of content. I really like this style and would love to see it on clothing. Do you know of any clothing brands where I could get graphic T-shirts with this style of graphic. Great work and keep it up brother this art blog is becoming quite inspiring for myself.
